South African artist Saliwa presents “Izinsalela,” a compelling album that adds another significant project to the artist’s growing catalogue. The title Izinsalela carries a strong isiZulu identity and can be understood as “remains,” “leftovers,” or “what remains behind,” creating an intriguing concept for a full-length musical project.
The idea of what remains can carry several emotional meanings. It may refer to memories, experiences, relationships, lessons, emotions, or traces of events that have already passed. This gives the album title a reflective quality and creates curiosity about the stories and perspectives explored across the project.
As an album, Izinsalela provides Saliwa with the opportunity to present a broader musical picture rather than relying on a single song. Different tracks can capture different moods and perspectives, allowing listeners to experience the artist's creative direction across a complete body of work.
